What do students and graduates say?

p17chad_hunter“I am taking Carpentry and Cabinetmaking.  If you are interested in this type work, I suggest going to the A-B Tech [Construction Science program]. The teachers are friendly and knowledgeable.  I really have learned a lot so far. In carpentry class, we do a lot of live projects. We are being taught the very latest technology in construction, including green building, which is becoming very popular in the construction world.”

-Chad Hunter

p17beth_rytz“I am looking forward to my upcoming career, and I can’t imagine building houses without having first come to A-B Tech.  I’ve learned how to read blueprints, frame a house, schedule projects, and perform the math for roofs.

I’ve learned to better manage time, to be meticulous, and to recognize my strengths and work around my weaknesses.”

-Beth Rytz

p17sam_pedisich1“At AB Tech, I was hoping to launch ahead after years of on-the-job training, and that is exactly what happened.  AB Tech provided a mix of fieldwork and construction theory that made understandable what otherwise could have been overwhelming.

By the time I finished the carpentry program, I felt confident that I could make my intended career transition.  My current success as a builder shows that I, in fact, gained the skills and knowledge needed to run a competitive carpentry business.

All of my instructors were incredibly patient storehouses of knowledge.  I am thankful that they applied their talents to empower me.”

-Sam Pedisich

p17sami_forrest2“From managing rental properties in southern California, I moved to Patagonia Arizona where I became involved with 'Women Build Houses' an organization which taught women build their own straw bale and cob homes. The straw bale home I lived in was a beautiful and comfortable.

After arriving in Asheville, I searched for a permanent home and couldn't find one that suited me in my price range. So I joined the WNCGBC and started classes at AB Tech to learn about sustainable construction. The education and support from everyone in the Construction Management program [a department within AB Tech Construction Science] headed by Ken Czarnomski is excellent and supportive of my goals: to build my own beautiful and sustainable home and help other women build theirs....without a 30-year mortgage.”

-Sami Forrest

p17dave_fortner"If you are interested in furthering craftsmanship in the building industry, look to AB Tech's carpentry program [part of AB Tech Construction Science].

You'll find a community resource that is being utilized well by folks with diverse interests.  Ken and the instructors provide a platform for everyone to grasp the fundamentals of building science and carpentry trades."

-Dave Fortner
